Escrow points are an essential
component of the InterStream system. Operated by authorized
Escrow and Meter Service Providers, the escrow point
are physically located within Network Access Points
(NAPs), Internet Exchanges (IXs), transit provider racks, or private meet-me
rooms.
For each transaction, the Escrow and Meter Provider’s system will:
- Receive a stream requests from an authorized account
provider. The request includes the originating server’s
IP address, port number, Stream characteristics and
wholesale payment record ("per-bit" or revenue sharing receipt) for the transaction.
- Accept the payment into escrow by verifying it is of non-repudiable form.
- Confirm that the broadband network has sufficient
capacity to support the stream at the required service
level specification.
- Authorize the stream from the specified IP address
and port number to the consumer's net-top software or hardware device
- Meter the performance of the stream, both from
the streaming server to the escrow point and then
from the escrow point to the consumer.
- Settle the escrowed payment, based on successful
delivery of the stream at the required service level
specification.
Escrow providers receive payment and pay a royalty
to the InterStream assocation on a per transaction basis.
