InterStreamSM transit provider's leverage peering relationships with both content and bandwidth suppliers to offer the streaming services end-to-end from the media company to the consumer.  A transit provider may sell InterStreamSM-branded streaming bandwidth to upstream content companies by connecting them to downstream ISPs.

Transit suppliers must meet key technical requirements in order to participate in the association. These include:

  • Network Uptime
InterStream expects association participants to demonstrate "four 9's" uptime (99.99%) reliability on their network.  Implementing Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) mitigation technologies and other products to insure the operation of a highly reliable network are encouraged.
  • Minimum Packet Loss Guarantees
Numetra meters all streaming transaction to insure that the uptime and packet loss guarantees are met by association participants. InterStream expects transit suppliers to maintain a less than 0.02 packet loss rate for their streaming transactions.
  • Geographic Deployment
InterStream transit providers are expected to maintain presences at key peering points and Internet Exchanges within their host geography.  Please contact InterStream for more details regarding this expectation.
  • Participate as an Escrowed Peer
The InterStream escrowed peering agreement formalizes and standardizes the interconnect mechanism for InterStream Transit and Broadband providers.    It is a bi-lateral agreement enabling one transit provider ISP to interchange traffic with multiple participating Broadband ISP through the metering and escrow provider.  For non-participating broadband ISPS, nuMetra's ISTP/TCP-Mustang mediation gateway enables InterStream Transit providers to offer guaranteed streaming services across those networks.  By definition, however, non-participating ISPs will have higher stream blocking probabilities than escrowed peers.

In addition, a number of transit providers may benefit by focusing on specific upstream customer markets and segments.  These may include:

  • Local Television Broadcasters
  • Universities and others involved in Distance Learning Activities
  • Remote International Television Broadcasters
  • "New Media" Companies wishing to transition from the Web to the "Video Web" on the Television
  • Shopping Networks
  • Live & Delayed Broadcast Events such a Concerts, Auctions, and Specialty Shows

InterStream is compiling a list of potential customers that will be segmented across the transit supplier partners.  For further information, contact info@interstreamtv.com.
